ST NEOTS, CAMBRIDGESHIRE For this project the clients asked me to design a garden with plenty of seating area, low maintenance and using traditional materials. The only other requirement was that I should incorporate the lamp which they had brought from there previous home. I changed the orientation slightly to line up between the door and the back gate. I would normally avoid such a direct line to the end of the garden but, in this case there is a very nice view out to the river and the flood plain beyond. This allowed for more depth to the planting beds and once the plants mature and obscure the fences, it should create an impression that the beds are deeper all around making the garden seem bigger than it actually is. I have reused the old slabs from the path and patio at the top and bottom of the garden and used the same type of slab in a contrasting colour for the central entertaining area. The brick walls are topped with stained sleepers to add warmth and soften the edges, they also make a good seat. Click on the images to the left to see larger versions
