Every project is different and this is obviously reflected in the services I provide and fees I charge. Typically, however, most projects fall into several distinct phases:-
- Initial discussion about your Garden Often on the telephone, this allows me to clarify certain key issues such as the plot size, location, and your broad objectives. A convenient date and time would be arranged to meet you.
- First Meeting The purpose of this is to gain a proper understanding of your needs and thoughts. We discuss what your garden will be used for and by whom and develop an outline of your design and landscaping requirements.
- Site Survey Before commencing the design, a survey of your site must be carried out to form a basis for drawing up plans for the landscaping of your garden.
- Garden Concept Design This is the point at which I commit the design ideas to paper. The proposed design for the garden is presented to you, in person, in sketch form. It gives a very clear indication of how things will look. At this stage we can discuss any areas of uncertainty.
- Detailed Garden Design Following your approval of the concept design, allowing for modifications should they be necessary, a detailed scaled drawing of your new garden is prepared.
- Garden Planting Plan A planting plan may or may not be prepared according to your preference. As I regularly under take to carry out the planting myself it is often more efficient and cost effective to source the plants according to availability and design the planting scheme ‘on the ground’.
- Landscaping Construction Drawings Detailed construction drawings are prepared for all of the hard landscaping elements, i.e., steps, walls, pergolas and ponds, etc. Drainage, site section and setting out drawings are prepared at this stage.
- Landscaping Specifications In addition to the design and construction drawings, written specifications and scopes of work, to enable landscape contractors to submit itemised quotations, on a like for like basis, for the building and planting of your garden.
