Middlesex This is a very small courtyard garden, about 4m x 4m. Surrounded as it is on all sides by high walls and fences it is an ideal site for a themed design where there are no visible outside distractions to spoil the effect. It does not pretend to be authentic but rather 'borrows' from the Moorish style. The brick wall at the back of the house has been rendered with pieces of coloured tile inlaid into it. The walls are also adorned with various pots and lamps. The cupboard with the blue door hides the garden tap and drain and once the pot plants are removed from the top it is quickly transformed into a barbeque for entertaining. A black pergola over a bench in one corner provides a shady seat and a cool spot to sit in what is otherwise a sun trap. The planting is lush and verdant to screen out the surrounding properties and gardens. On the floor are a concrete based slab that are made to resemble old, weathered Terracotta but without the problem of susceptibility to frost damage. Click on the images to see larger versions
