An Odd Shape Formalised

Cambourne, Cambridgeshire.

The design brief was to create something reminiscent of a stately home garden on a smaller scale. The plot itself was a very irregular shape and the fence-line along the back of the garden tapered in, closer to the house from right to left.

A formal garden design was needed, something with strong lines that would keep the eye away from the irregular boundaries and give an appearance of depth and opulence to the borders.

To keep within the clients budget the existing paving slabs were re-used in combination with gravel to create the paving areas and the existing lawn was preserved and reshaped to suit. The planting consists of a very limited colour palette, mainly pastel shades of blue, mauve, pink and white. Shrubs are used to provide structure, rhythm and depth.
